A pet psychic (also called an animal communicator or pet medium) is someone who says they can sense what your animal is feeling or thinking, usually from a photo, a live call or a written reading. There is no scientific evidence that anyone can communicate with animals telepathically, so the honest answer is that a pet psychic reading works best as a guided way to think about your pet’s behavior, routine and bond with you. This guide covers how pet psychic readings work, what they cost, what to ask, how to avoid scams, and what a written pet tarot reading from PuraTarot actually is.

At a glance

  • What: a session or written reading about your pet’s behavior, mood or bond with you. PuraTarot’s version is a written tarot reflection, not telepathy.
  • Who it is for: adults reflecting on a companion animal and a situation: a move, a new routine, a bond to deepen, a goodbye.
  • Price from: live animal communicators usually charge $50–150+ per session; PuraTarot’s Pet and Animal Connection Tarot Reading starts at $13.99.
  • Delivery: a 3–5 page PDF with a photo of the spread, emailed Same Hour or Same Day.
  • Not for: illness, pain or a sudden behavior change. Those go to a vet first.

What is a pet psychic?

A pet psychic is a person who offers to “read” an animal: its mood, its wants, why it behaves a certain way. Many prefer the term animal communicator, and a pet medium claims to reach a pet who has died. The labels overlap, and none of them is licensed or regulated.

What pet psychics and animal communicators claim

Most say they receive impressions from the animal: pictures, feelings, words or body sensations. Some work from a photo and the pet’s name; others ask you to hold your pet on a video call. Claims range from the modest (“I help you notice what your pet is showing you”) to the dramatic (“your dog told me he wants a raw diet”), and the bigger the claim, the more caution it needs.

What the evidence says

There is no scientific evidence that humans can communicate with animals telepathically, and controlled tests of psychic claims have not produced results better than chance. That does not make every communicator a fraud, but never base a decision about your pet’s health or safety on a reading.

What people actually get value from

Ask people who enjoyed a pet psychic reading what they took from it and the answers are practical: they paid closer attention to their animal, talked through a routine that had drifted, or found a kinder way to think about a goodbye. That is where a good reading earns its price: attention, reflection and a plan you can act on.

How do pet psychics work?

Three formats are common, and each changes what you get.

Live sessions (video or phone)

You book a 30–60 minute call. The communicator asks about your pet, then reports impressions and answers your questions in real time. Live sessions are the most personal and the most expensive.

Photo-based readings

You send a photo, the pet’s name and a few lines about the situation. The reader “tunes in” to the image and sends back notes by email or voice message. This is the most common format for a pet psychic online, and it works from anywhere.

Written readings, including pet tarot

A written pet reading is prepared in your absence and sent as a document. Some readers use intuition alone; others use tarot or oracle cards to give the reading a structure. A pet tarot reading is the format I offer at PuraTarot; more on that below.

How much does a pet psychic cost?

Pet psychic cost depends mostly on format and on how well known the reader is.

FormatTypical priceWhat you receiveBest for
Live animal communicator (video or phone)$50–150+ per session (30–60 min)Real-time conversation with follow-up questionsOwners who want to talk it through
Phone psychic lineBilled per minute, often several dollars a minuteA general psychic, rarely animal-specific; cost rises every minuteNot recommended for pet questions
Photo-based reading by emailVaries; often close to a live sessionWritten or recorded notes based on a photoOwners far from any local reader
Written pet tarot reading (PuraTarot)From $13.99; Same Hour $2–3 more3–5 page PDF with a photo of the spreadA calm written reflection you can re-read

A low starting fee is not a bargain if the reader then tells you your pet “needs” a follow-up, a healing package or a cleansing. Clear, flat pricing, paid by normal methods rather than gift cards or crypto, is the first sign of a reputable reader.

Is a pet psychic reading real?

It depends what you mean by real. If you mean “can this person hear my cat’s thoughts,” there is no evidence for that. If you mean “can a reading help me understand my pet and our bond,” then yes, many people find it does, for reasons that have nothing to do with the supernatural.

Some readers also have a good eye for animal behavior, because years of listening to owners teach you patterns: a dog who guards the door after a move, a cat who stops grooming when a routine breaks. That knowledge is real, even when the framing is not.

I do not claim to talk to animals. I offer a written tarot reflection on the situation you describe, and I work to make it useful.

How to find a reputable pet psychic (and avoid scams)

Because there is no license, you have to do the checking yourself. Searching “pet psychic near me” gives you a map pack and a few Instagram accounts, but local does not mean reliable. Most pet psychic readings are now delivered online, and written readings work from anywhere.

Reputable pet psychic checklist

  • Clear pricing before you pay. A flat fee, or a per-minute rate stated up front, with no surprise add-ons.
  • No fear upsells. Walk away from anyone who says your pet is in danger, carries a curse or “needs” more sessions.
  • Limits stated plainly. Not veterinary advice, not a diagnosis, not a guaranteed outcome.
  • Refund or contact details in writing. A real business name, a working email and a policy you can read.
  • No vet claims. Nobody should “sense” a tumor, prescribe a diet or tell you to skip medication.
  • They ask you for detail. A reader who wants only a photo and a payment is guessing; one who asks about routine, history and what changed is doing the work.
  • No pressure and no vagueness. Be wary of “decide today” discounts and of statements that fit any animal (“he loves you and is a bit anxious”).

What should I ask a pet psychic? 20 example questions

The quality of your questions decides the quality of the reading. Open questions about your pet’s world, your routine and your own next step work far better than “does she love me?”

Behavior changes

  1. My dog has started barking at the window every evening. What in our routine might be feeding this?
  2. My cat has begun hiding under the bed most of the day. How can I help her feel safe again?
  3. Our rabbit is thumping at night. What changed for him recently that I might have missed?
  4. My dog pulls away when my partner comes home. How can we rebuild trust between them?

A new home or a move

  1. We are moving next month. How can I make the change easier for my cat?
  2. We adopted a rescue dog three weeks ago and he still seems on edge. What might help him settle?
  3. My horse is moving to a new yard. What should I keep the same?
  4. We are bringing home a second cat. How can I give both cats a fair start?

Bonding and everyday life

  1. What does my dog enjoy most about our time together, and what am I overlooking?
  2. I work longer hours now. How can I keep my bond with my cat strong?
  3. My parrot has bonded with my daughter more than with me. How can I build my own connection with him?
  4. What would a better daily routine look like for my dog and me?

Senior pets

  1. My dog is 13 and slowing down. How can I make her days comfortable and full?
  2. My old cat sleeps most of the day. What small things could make his routine gentler?
  3. How can I tell the difference between “getting old” and something I should ask the vet about?
  4. What do I want my senior pet’s last years with me to feel like?

Grief and goodbye

  1. We are facing a decision about euthanasia. How can I approach it with calm and care?
  2. My dog died last month and I keep replaying his last day. What might help me let that go?
  3. How can I mark the goodbye in a way that honors our bond?
  4. Is it too soon to think about another pet, and what do I need first?

None of these asks for a diagnosis or a promise; each leaves room for you to act. PuraTarot’s guide to acceptable questions has more on what a reading can and cannot cover.

Dog psychic and cat psychic readings

People search for a dog psychic or a cat psychic because the two species raise different questions, and the details you bring should reflect that.

Dog psychic questions

Dogs live by routine and by their people, so the most useful dog psychic questions focus on structure, separation and change:

  • How can I help my dog cope when I go back to the office three days a week?
  • What might be behind his new fear of the car, and how can I make trips calmer?
  • We are expecting a baby. How can I prepare my dog for a different household?

Include his age, how long you have had him, his daily walks and who else lives at home.

Cat psychic questions

Cats respond to territory, smell and small shifts in their environment, so strong cat psychic questions sound like these:

  • My cat stopped using the litter tray after we redecorated. What should I look at first?
  • How can I help two cats who have started avoiding each other?
  • My indoor cat seems bored. How can I give her more of what she needs?

Mention whether she is indoor or outdoor, any other cats, and anything new in the house. If a litter tray change came out of nowhere, book the vet before the reading.

What a PuraTarot pet reading is (and how to order one)

I’m Meriem, and I prepare every PuraTarot reading personally. The Pet and Animal Connection Tarot Reading is a personalized written tarot reading about your pet and the situation you describe. It is not telepathy and not a pet medium session; I do not claim to hear your animal or to contact a pet who has died.

I read your details, shuffle and lay out a spread for your situation, photograph it, and write an interpretation card by card and as a whole. You receive a 3–5 page PDF by email with the photo of the spread. It works for any companion animal: dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits.

What to put in the “Your details for this reading” box

On the product page you type your details into the “Your details for this reading” box before adding to cart. I need four things:

  • Your first name.
  • Your pet’s name and species (breed and age help too).
  • Your main question: one clear question about the situation.
  • Brief context: up to two related points, such as what changed and when, or what you have already tried.

Then choose Same Hour or Same Day and check out. Same Hour readings are prepared and emailed within one hour after I have your complete details, subject to my availability, and cost $2–3 more; Same Day arrives later the same day. The PDF goes to your checkout email; the full process is on the how it works page.

If you missed the box, you can send your details to [email protected], but the box is the normal and fastest route.

Example of a good intake

Dana. Pet: Biscuit, a 9-year-old beagle (dog). Main question: Since we moved in July, Biscuit sleeps in the hallway instead of my room. What can I reflect on to help him settle and rebuild our evening routine? Context: I now work longer hours and get home after dark. The vet checked him last month and found nothing wrong.

The vet note tells me the health question is handled, so the reading can focus on routine and bond. For more, see how personalized tarot readings by email work and the Same Hour vs Same Day comparison.

When not to use a pet psychic

A reading, mine included, is never a substitute for veterinary care. Go to the vet first, and skip the reading for now, if any of these apply:

  • Your pet is not eating or drinking, is vomiting, or has had diarrhea for more than a day.
  • You suspect pain: limping, flinching when touched, hiding, unusual stillness or new aggression.
  • A sudden behavior change with no obvious cause, especially in toileting, appetite or sleep.
  • Weight loss, a lump, labored breathing, or a change in drinking or urination.
  • Any question that starts with “is it serious” or “what is wrong with.”

Once your vet has ruled out a medical cause, a reading can be a helpful next step for the emotional and practical side, but never the first step.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a pet psychic cost?

A live session with an animal communicator usually costs $50–150 or more for 30–60 minutes, and well-known readers charge much higher. Phone psychic lines bill by the minute, so costs climb fast. A written pet tarot reading from PuraTarot starts at $13.99 for Same Day delivery, with Same Hour $2–3 more.

Is pet psychic reading real?

There is no scientific evidence that anyone can communicate with animals telepathically. What is real is the value many owners take from a reading: focused attention on their pet, a clearer view of routine and behavior, and a calmer way to face a change or a goodbye. Treat it as reflection, not as fact about your pet’s mind.

How to find a reputable pet psychic?

Look for clear pricing before you pay, limits stated in writing, a real business name with contact details, and a refund or contact policy. Avoid anyone who uses fear to sell more sessions or who makes claims about your pet’s health. Read independent reviews, and expect the reader to ask you for real detail about your pet.

What should I ask a pet psychic?

Ask open questions about behavior, routine, a change at home, your bond, or a goodbye. Good examples: “What might be behind my dog’s new fear of the car?” or “How can I help my cat settle after our move?” Avoid questions that ask for a diagnosis or a promise, and give context: age, history and what changed.

How do pet psychics work?

Most offer a live video or phone session, a photo-based reading by email, or a written reading. The reader asks about your pet and the situation, then shares impressions or, in the case of a pet tarot reading, a card-by-card interpretation. Formats differ in price and depth, but all of them depend on the detail you provide.

Can a pet psychic reading help after a pet dies?

Grief after losing a pet is real, and many people look for a pet medium in that moment; no one can be shown to contact a pet who has died. What can help is a gentle way to mark the goodbye. PuraTarot’s Pet Blessing and Bond Reflection Ritual is a short written practice for that, not a way to reach your pet.

Which reading fits you?

For a calm, written reflection on your pet and a situation you are facing, choose the Pet and Animal Connection Tarot Reading ($13.99–$15.99). Fill in the details box, pick Same Hour or Same Day, and the PDF arrives by email.

If you are marking a moment rather than asking a question (an adoption, a move, a recovery, a goodbye), the Pet Blessing and Bond Reflection Ritual ($11.99–$14.99) is a short written practice for that.

If the question is really about you, such as whether to adopt a second dog, a One Question Tarot Reading may fit better. Browse the Pet Connection category, check the FAQ, or contact me if you are unsure.

Readings are for adults, for personal clarity; they are not medical, veterinary, mental-health, legal, financial or professional advice, and no outcome is guaranteed. See the full disclaimer.
